Identity connects us, so Signal uses its ongoing Signalite Social Spotlight to feature our incredible employees for who they really are. The more you learn about them, the more you’ll begin to recognize what makes our favorite individuals unique. Can you identify?
Justin Joseph, a.k.a. JJ. Software Engineer. Age: “It’s a mystery. Just kidding! 32.” Laid back, easygoing and chill.
Born in Des Plaines, IL, but spent his first three years living in India. Graduate of both the Illinois Institute of Art and Dev Bootcamp.
Listens to electronic, trip hop and house music (favorite artists: George FitzGerald, Emancipator and Bassnectar). Learning to cook. Owns a surprising number of Super Nintendo games. Would stop channel-surfing to watch ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ and ‘The Matrix.’
Interests and passions: Traveling (Top three past destinations: Kerala, India; Kyoto, Japan; Maui), reading, art and drawing, learning Ju Jitsu and Japanese, hiking (“Mountains are great”).
Pet peeves: Laundry woes (“When I accidentally put clothes in the warm or cold wash into the wrong one, and then my clothes shrink”), vacuuming, sour foods (but likes spice), and people who don’t listen when you’re talking.
Would he rather be locked in an amusement park or a library?: ”I would go with a library. When I was in grade school and junior high, my parents said I couldn’t read until I finished my homework, so I’d lock myself in my room. I do like amusement parks and the amount of energy, but I don’t like spending long periods of time in large, super-congested areas.”
His favorite part about working at Signal: “The people and the culture. Since I’ve been here, I’ve had a chance to participate in really fun activities. Also, even though I work on challenging problems, there has never been a time when I’m worried about asking for help. People across departments are willing to go out of their way.”
